Dr. Randy Nations started his service on the Board of Directors in May 2020.  He will represent the southernmost parts of Summit County in this role as his home (constructed by him and his father) is in Blue River.  He hopes to contribute his medical expertise as well as an understanding of the communities comprising this specific region of the Colorado high country in his service to the  District.

He was born in Dallas, TX, but ultimately raised in the panhandle of Florida.  The waters and beaches of the “Emerald Coast” of Florida were amazing, but like many Texans, he longed to live in the mountains of Colorado.  After completing his undergraduate degree in Biology from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, he went on to complete medical school at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine.  His residency was completed at the University of Minnesota—North Memorial Family Medicine Residency.  In August 1998, he was offered a partnership with High Country Health Care in Breckenridge, where he was a partner for 20 years.  In 2018, he left his successful practice of two decades to venture into a medical practice model called Direct Primary Care (DPC), keeping his new practice, Mountain Doc DPC, in Breckenridge.  This is a new and growing paradigm in primary care meant to rebuild the incredible patient-physician relationships that are the foundation of medical care.  He has plans to continue to grow his new practice, and even expand into other needs, to serve the local mountain communities with additional services not yet offered, in this very personalized way.

His life revolves around his family, including his wife, Michelle, as well as 3 daughters and 1 son who were born and raised in the Colorado high country. He also has extended family in Estes Park and Erie, Colorado.

His interests are skiing and snowmobiling, kite-boarding, flying (he is a private pilot!), hunting and any other outdoor activities, as long as family are involved!

He is excited to begin serving in this role, and appreciates the opportunity to be a part of this storied organization, and to associate with the amazing individuals that define the District.
