Target to Host Child Booster Seat Blitz

Thursday, February 14, 2008 - Silverthorne, CO

On Saturday, February 16, Target, along with Central Mountain Safe Kids, will be hosting a booster seat blitz in their Silverthorne store.

From 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., volunteers will be on hand for demonstrations on how to safely install and use child booster seats. They will answer questions and have handouts available.

Booster seats lift a child up so the seatbelt system fits correctly. Colorado’s booster seat law started on August 1, 2003, and requires that children who are at least four years old or weigh over 40 pounds need to be properly restrained in a child booster seat or with a child safety belt-positioning device. Children must ride in booster seats until they are six years old or 55 inches tall. Safety experts recommend booster seats for all four to eight year olds until they fit into an adult seat belt.

Car crashes are the number one killer of children. Placing a child in a seatbelt before it fits them correctly may not protect your child in a crash. A child restrained with only a seatbelt may slip out or the lap belt can press into a child’s delicate stomach and cause serious injuries to internal organs. A loose shoulder belt won’t protect a child’s upper body in a crash.
