Sawmill Run Road
Monday, October 22, 2007 - Breckenridge, CO
At approximately 10:15 p.m. Sunday night, Red, White and Blue firefighters were called to a structure fire in Breckenridge.
When crews arrived at 162 Sawmill Run Road, they found heavy smoke emanating from the house.
Upon approaching the house, they noticed heavy, black smoke that was almost at floor level. Using their thermal imaging camera, crews were able to locate the base of the fire quickly and extinguish it. After the fire was out, crews ventilated the house.
One of the house’s renters stated that he called 9-1-1 after returning home from the grocery store and noticed smoke coming out of the second story.
"The fire appears to have started in or near the wood burning fireplace area," said Deputy Fire Marshal Lt. Jay Nelson. "The firebox had significant damage that may have contributed to the fire being able to escape and move into the walls and ceiling," he said.
The house suffered extensive smoke and fire damage to the second floor area. The fire is still under investigation but appears to be unintentional at this time.
