Red, White & Blue Fire Receives "SAFER" Grant
Tuesday, September 02, 2008 - Breckenridge, CO
Red, White & Blue Fire District recently received the exciting news that they have been awarded a federal grant worth over $420,000 to bolster firefighter staffing levels. The Department of Homeland Security "SAFER" Grant, which will be distributed over four years, will assist the District in efficiently addressing the demands of community growth and a record increase in emergencies, while also meeting nationally recognized standards for safe and effective staffing.
The SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) Grant was created to provide funding directly to fire departments to help them increase the number of trained, "front-line" firefighters available in their communities.
"Being selected for this grant award is a significant achievement; I applaud our quality staff and their efforts," said Fire Chief Gary Green. "This funding will help us continue to provide a fast, safe and effective response to the variety of emergency incidents in our community," he said.
District Board President Randy Griffin noted, "As a taxpayer-supported entity, we constantly seek ways to manage expenses and enhance services to the citizens and guests of our community, and grant funding is one way to accomplish both," he said.
"The State Division of Fire Safety is thrilled to hear that one of our most popular resort communities has been selected for this grant award," said Kevin Klein, Director of the Colorado Division of Fire Safety. "We congratulate the Red, White & Blue Fire District and applaud their efforts toward meeting nationally recognized standards while enhancing their all-hazards emergency response capabilities," he said.
Red, White & Blue Fire District was selected from over 1500 applicants for the SAFER Grant, and one of only three recipients in Colorado.
