Red, White & Blue Fire District Nears International Accreditation
Wednesday, March 09, 2011 - Breckenridge, CO
Red, White & Blue Fire Protection District (“District’) is preparing its final push towards joining an elite group of fire departments throughout the world.
For the past 18 months, the District has been diligently working toward international accreditation as a fire and emergency services agency through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, Inc. (CFAI), a non-profit agency founded in 1996.
CFAI is dedicated to assisting fire and emergency services agencies throughout the world in achieving excellence through self-assessment and accreditation in order to provide continuous quality improvement and the enhancement of service delivery to their communities.
Throughout this process, the District has reviewed and compared “best practices” through nationally recognized standards, community involvement in strategic planning and a representative board of directors. They are required to meet or exceed 253 measured performance indicators. The arduous evaluation will review every aspect of service and management provided by the Red, White & Blue Fire District, including response to emergencies, personnel management, financial accountability, training and goal-setting.
“This process has really opened our eyes to those areas needing further assessment and improvement,” said Fire Chief Gary Green. “Today’s all-hazards emergency response demands versatile, well-trained troops deployed efficiently and complemented with effective prevention and preparedness; accreditation provides the necessary framework for this endeavor,” he said.
The District hopes to become the fifth fire agency in Colorado to achieve this prestigious status, joining South Metro/Parker Fire District, Aurora Fire Department, Pueblo Fire District and the U.S. Air Force Academy Fire Department.
“We appreciate the tremendous support and guidance these benchmark organizations have extended to us and we would be honored to be listed among them very soon,” said Chief Green.
