Fire Investigation Updates
Wednesday, December 06, 2006 - Breckenridge, CO
Red, White & Blue Fire District has responded to five fires within the last two months. Following are updates from Fire Investigator and Deputy Fire Marshal Jay Nelson:
350 Timber Trail: Fire occurred 10.10.06. The unintentional fire was determined to have started when construction materials fell onto a 100 lb. propane heater at a home under construction. The Town of Breckenridge Building Department has inspected the damage and has determined that there is no structural damage to the house. The fire damage was minimal and the contractor is working on fixing the damage from the fire. A small construction schedule set-back is expected because of the fire.
NOW Colorado: Fire occurred 10.11.06. The fire was determined to have been caused by an improperly installed chimney. At this time, all chimneys in all of the buildings are suspected to have been installed improperly and Red, White & Blue is working with the management company, the Town of Breckenridge Building Department and the homeowner’s association to correct the situation.
Highland Terrace: Fire occurred 10.27.06. The fire was determined to have started in the hot tub machinery. The equipment is currently being evaluated by the insurance company for the exact failure point in the equipment that caused the fire.
0175 Shadows Drive: Fire occurred 11.8.06. The fire was determined to have started on the exterior of the structure on the covered deck and attributed to smoking materials. Combustible materials, such as storage boxes, as well as heavy winds, contributed to the spread of the fire. Fire damage was most severe on the exterior of the deck-side of the house. Accelerants were not detected in or around the house.
500 Village Rd-Valdoro Mtn. Lodge: Fire occurred 11.21.06. The fire was determined to have been started by a portable DVD player which was located in a cabinet at the concierge desk. At this time, it is suspected that the batteries in the DVD player overheated, causing only minor damage. Witness statements and interviews suggest that the fire was unintentional and beyond the control of those who work in the area or witnessed the fire.
