Explosion Totals Building, Injures One

Saturday, April 19, 2008 - Breckenridge, CO Explosion Pic 3

At approximately 11:20 this morning, Red, White & Blue Fire District was called to Good Times Snowmobile Tours on Tiger Rd. for the report of an explosion.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they immediately began a search for trapped persons in the debris. They located one male, who was buried up to his chest, and quickly started digging to free him, using shoring for stabilization. He was conscious and alert at that time. The patient was airlifted to Denver by a Flight for Life helicopter.

Day hikers called in the explosion, when they heard it nearby and saw a mushroom-like cloud of debris in the air. There was no fire on the scene.

Crews from Lake Dillon Fire-Rescue, Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Summit County Ambulance were on scene to assist.

The building that exploded was the main office, with an apartment upstairs. One dog is still missing. Other nearby buildings remain intact. No other injuries reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but does not appear to be intentional at this time.
