Explosion Investigation Begins in Breckenridge
Thursday, April 24, 2008 - Breckenridge, CO
- Investigators began sifting through the rubble yesterday at Good Times Adventures, looking for clues to determine the cause of last Saturday’s explosion.
Investigators from Red, White & Blue Fire, Colorado Bureau of Investigations, Colorado Division of Oil and Public Safety, as well as private insurance agents, convened yesterday at the site to begin their investigation.
Fire Marshal Jay Nelson said that the investigation will probably take several weeks due to the amount of debris that must be examined. "We have handed control of the scene over to the property owner’s insurance company as it does not appear to be a criminal matter at this time," he said.
Colorado Department of Health arrived on scene yesterday, halting all work and determined that asbestos testing must be done before investigators are allowed to continue working. That process could take several days to complete, thus further delaying the investigation.
The explosion, which completely destroyed a 5680 square foot building, injured one employee. Rescuers worked over four hours to extricate the worker, who was then airlifted to Denver.
