Emergency Crews Deliver Baby in 7-Eleven Parking Lot
Monday, June 13, 2011 - Breckenridge, CO
At 8:47 P.M. on June 13th, Red, White and Blue Fire Firefighters and Summit County Ambulance Paramedics were called to the 7-Eleven on Highway 9, for a woman in labor with contractions one minute apart.
The crews arrived on scene just two minutes after receiving the call. They found the woman in the front seat of the family’s vehicle, ready to deliver the baby. “It was quickly evident that we did not have time to move her”, said Firefighter/Paramedic Hal Clark. The two crews worked together caring for the woman while setting up equipment to deliver the baby.
A few short minutes later the woman delivered the baby in the front seat of the family car, with Dad and the rest of the family close by. The crews assessed the newborn while re-assessing the mother and prepared them for safe transport to St. Anthony’s Summit Medical Center.
Battalion Chief Austin stated, “the crews from SCAS and RWB did a great job of working together to provide excellent care to both mother and baby”.
Fire crews later learned the family had been on their way to Summit Medical Center when they realized that delivery was imminent, pulled over and called 911.
